Arts on the Avenue
Music and art -- what a combination and it's all free. Ladysmith's annual event will surprise you. The backdrop is downtown First Avenue beside heritage buildings. The artists are set up in large tents down the centre of the street. A hands-on art area for kids is a popular spot as well as a silent art auction. The live music and entertainment happens all day. Art demonstrations, art for sale -- all for the love of art.

The Cowichan Valley Artisans is a group of professional artisans making the highest heirloom quality fine craft. There are potters and painters, glass artisans, jewelry and furniture makers, a wood turner, a vinegary (and winery), a local-cuisine restaurant and a traditional barber offering straight razor shaves. This group produces a year-round studio tour, an "all studios open" weekend studio tour in April and is active in, and supportive of, the local art and fine craft scene. They also support local environmental and habitat initiatives such as the Somenos Marsh and The Land Conservancy. To visit any of the studios, the Somenos Marsh or TLC, print a brochure from the web site or pick one up at Excellent Frameworks or Experience Cycling in Duncan.
"The purpose of guild is simple... to bring musicians and audiences together.
