42nd Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show 2012The Cowichan Valley Arts Council (CVAC) is proud to present the 42nd annual Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show - one of Vancouver Island's largest, non-juried art exhibitions and sales, to be held at the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre, (200 Cowichan Way) in Duncan from April 25th to the 29th, 2012.
CVAC is a non-profit community based organization established to encourage and support the talented artists and artisans of the Cowichan Valley. The council maintains a permanent display venue and office at PORTALS, the CVAC Centre of Arts, Culture and Heritage, located in the Island Savings Recreation Centre (2687 James Street) in Duncan. All student, emerging/professional artists and artisans, who are members in good standing with CVAC, are eligible to enter up to 2 pieces of original artwork in four different categories. Last year 121 artists were represented in over 200 pieces in the show. Prizes will be awarded in 2D original traditional, 2D original contemporary, 3D original traditional and 3D original contemporary categories. The popular "People's Choice" Award ribbon will be presented, as well as 10 Award of Merit ribbons. Three recognized independent artists will be selecting the prize winners. The show will feature the popular "Cowichan Catch - A Live-ly Auction" on Saturday April 28th. The auction will begin as a silent auction, open to bidding at PORTALS April 16th to the 21st. The auction items will then be moved to the Cultural Centre for the April 28th Live-ly Auction. Proceeds from this event will benefit CVAC's expanding role in providing community-based arts information and resources. The "Cowichan Hands Create - A Vendor's Market" will feature local artists and artisans with a variety of work such as jewellery, fibre, clay and woodworking. Also featured is a family studio with children's activities. Opening night is on Wednesday, April 25th from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. The Cowichan Catch auction is from 6:30 PM to 9PM on April 28th. Hours for the show are as follows: Thursday, April 26 10 AM - 6PM Friday, April 27 10 AM - 6PM Saturday, April 28 10 AM - 5PM Sunday, April 29 11 AM - 3:30 PM Admission is $5.00.
