Eclipse~ by Ewa Sniatycka
Your mother just passed. I asked the time. Somehow I needed to know the exact moment. We had been expecting it, dreading it, denying it, battling it. Waiting. Held captive – all of us. Our lives suspended in the service of the process – Suddenly. We were released. I dressed in the crumpled clothes, braided my hair and went upstairs to her room. The bedside light was on. Sleeping beauty – skin translucent; delicate features. I moved along the bedrails to her pillow and felt the warmth of her forehead with my lips – Her breath was gone. But her energy still moved – A hum between my body and hers. I inhaled her. |
