I love to sketch, draw, and paint on watercolour paper because it has a unique textured feel to it. I use pencil, watercolour paint, acrylic paint or any mix of things that I can find to do my art. I believe that a part of my personality is portrayed when I draw; in the stroke, style, colours, or even in the images themselves. If twenty people were to draw a star, for example, there would be twenty completely different stars, each with a unique feel to it.
Art is a matter of expression. I usually draw something if it fascinates me, or if it is something I feel; usually it is a combination of both of these. When I draw an object, even a thing as common as a leaf, I am always surprised. It holds hidden details that I had not noticed.
I love the cultures of the world. Different languages, customs and beliefs have always interested me. I have traveled to India two times and while there I realized how much I love their culture. This painting is a hand-drawn rendition on watercolour paper, using a fine tipped Sharpie pen and watercolour paint. It is of the Hindu god, Ganesa. He is the remover of obstacles and the patron of arts and sciences; a much-loved deity in India. I personally love that he is dancing in this image because many pictures of him show him simply sitting on a lotus flower. Being able to experience the Indian culture has altered me as a person and as an artist.
My biggest challenge in art now is to find my own style and to evolve in my own art.
